Bicaz Gorge – the story of nature’s miracle

The Bicaz Gorge is a beautiful canyon in Romania, situated in the north-east part of the country, in Neamt and Harghita counties. In comparison with other tourist locations, this one is differently through its provenance that is absolute natural make by the river that has carved the rock decades ago.

The gorge was excised by the waters of Bicaz River and it serves as a passageway between the Romanian provinces of Moldova and Transylvania. The road along the 8 kilometers of ravines, often in serpentine with rock on one side and a sheer drop on the other is one of the most spectacular drives in the country. Also travelers need to know that Bicaz Gorge is a national protected area. This natural “architecture” was included in the “Cheile Bicazului Hasmas National Park”. The park administration is located in Izvorul Muresului, Harghita County.

The park’s most important geological features are Cheile Bicazului (Bicaz Gorges), a deep canyon dug by the Bicaz River, Lacul Rosu (the Red Lake) – a natural dam lake, and the Hasmas Mountains. The parks area is divided into two zones: the special conservation zone (78%), and the protection zone (22%). Withal you can stop nearby for dining outdoors with family or friends, enjoying the tranquility of nature.

Furthermore, travelers who love photography this is the perfect place to immortalize the best moments, when man is closer to the wildlife. The special name of the lake comes from the reddish alluvium deposited in the lake by the Red Creek. The lake falls within the jurisdiction of the municipality of Gheorgheni. Besides historical and real facts about this natural miracle that captivate every soul, locals have set a legend of love about rocks provenience.

The tourists that visited this location know that the Bicaz Gorge is the result of lovely story between sunshine and granite rock. They met each other on every sunrise, and it was really true love connection. But one day, the rain decided to break their heart because of the unrequited love for the rock. The jealous water destroyed the splendor of the rock and in every year the rock is getting smaller and the sunshine is not able to see it again. After decades, the rock turned into sand and the water covered it’s formed with rocks forever.

Thus the endless views are waiting for new visitors and guests to share their beauty and splendor.
